GXSS/1236 single-core joint, 16 to 1000 sq mm
One ferrule in the box, so one kit makes one core. Count the cables at the position before you count anything else.
GXSS/1236-Series heat-shrinkable straight-through joint
GXSS/1236 splices single-core extruded-dielectric cable — shielded, armoured or unarmoured — on 12 kV, 15–24 kV and 36 kV systems. It is the single-core half of the manufacturer's straight-through range; the three-core half is GXS/1236.

What it joints, and what it will not
The series description on the manufacturer's sheet is narrow and worth reading literally: straight-through jointing kits for single-core extruded dielectric, shielded, armoured and unarmoured cables up to 36 kV rated voltage. Every word there is a filter.
Extruded dielectric rules out paper. A lead-sheathed cable full of oil is a different operation with a different bill of material, and it takes a GPS kit. Paper one side and XLPE the other takes a GTJ transition joint.
Shielded matters because half this kit exists to carry the screen across the splice — the copper woven mesh tape, the GI mesh, the spring clamp. On an unscreened LV cable there is nothing for those parts to do, and the job drops to the GXLT range.
Single core is the one that gets ordered wrong, and it is not a size question. See the GXS three-core kit for what changes when all three phases share a sheath.
The ceiling is 36 kV. The manufacturer publishes nothing above it in this family, so a 66 kV enquiry is not a GXSS enquiry with a bigger number on the end.

Quantities as printed on the manufacturer's bill of material. Items 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12 carry one quantity for all three classes; items 2, 4 and 9 step with the voltage class. Number 10 is not a gap in the list — on the sheet's cross-section it is the cable's own armour, indexed alongside 13 copper screen, 14 outer sheath and 15 XLPE insulation.
Three of the eleven are tubes and they go on in a fixed order, innermost first — stress control, insulating, dual wall. Thread all of them past the cut-back before the ferrule is crimped. There is no way back over a crimped ferrule except a saw.
The tubes are taken apart one by one on the joint sleeves page. The ferrule, the mastics, the mesh and the springs are on what is actually in a kit, and the order the whole lot goes on in is the MV jointing sequence.
Two lines that the three-core GXS list carries are absent here: a wraparound metallic joint case and worm drive clips. The single-core manifest finishes at the outer jacketing sleeve. If a schedule you have inherited calls for a joint case on a single-core splice, that requirement did not come from this datasheet.

Listed on the sheet separately from the numbered components, and short — this is a jointer's consumables tray, not a toolkit.

- The three-core aids list additionally prints nylon string for cutting XLPE insulation, PVC adhesive tape and mastic sealing tape. The single-core list does not.
Three cables at the position means three kits
Item 1 on the manifest is one ferrule. The GXS/1236 sheet, covering three-core cable, prints three. That single difference decides how you order.
A three-phase circuit built from single-core cable is three separate cables lying in the same trench. Jointing that circuit is three complete GXSS operations — three ferrules, three sets of tubing, three screen paths made off the same way — so it is three kits, all the same code, ordered together.
Buy them together as well. The mastics and tubing in one carton have travelled and been stored as a batch, and a jointer working three phases in a day should not be reaching into two different production runs halfway through.
Where the three joints physically sit along the run is a separate decision, and the datasheet does not make it for you.
It is also worth ordering the odd kit spare rather than the odd component. Nothing in this family is sold by the piece on the published sheet, and a joint held open overnight for one missing mastic is the failure mode described on why joints fail.

Printed on the GXSS-1236 sheet without a named test standard against the values. The DC row is given as 30 minutes here; the three-core GXS/1236 chart heads its equivalent row one minute. Quote the duration, not just the kilovolts, when this goes into a type-test clause.

Suffix numbers do not carry across families. GXSS-13 is 150–300 sq mm; GXS-13, in the three-core chart, is 120–185. Read the letters first, then the number. Note also that the single-core range reaches 1000 sq mm while the three-core chart stops at 500, which is the sizes people actually run as single core.
No source for that
The GXSS-1236 sheet publishes contents, quantities, withstand values and the size chart. It publishes nothing on how far apart to stagger the three joints in a single-core circuit, no recovered dimensions for the tubes, no shelf life for the pre-expanded parts, no jointing time, and no minimum bending radius past the finished joint. We are not going to guess any of them. Put the cable's construction, core count, conductor size and system voltage in an email and ask the manufacturer through contact.
Check the code before the cable is cut
Conductor size, system voltage and core count give the kit code in one line. Send those three and the answer comes back as a code, not a catalogue.
